Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle... yeah

Long time, no write. I know. Sorry for my absence. I've been ... living. It seems like the days have been flying by since the summer. We went on a family vacation to England in August. Hired a new nanny in September. Not-so-baby Boy turned 1 and started walking in October. We felt a little suffocated by our tiny apartment once the boy was really on the move. So we found another place and a week and a half after looking for a new place, we moved. We still aren't completely unpacked, but we're getting there. As I type, Not-so-baby Boy is taking his very first nap sans pacifier. It was a little rough at first, but within 5 minutes, he was out. Mommy - 1, paci - 0.

And here's where it gets real. I've been going to the gym a lot. Thanks to Miss Daisy at Carsick Caravan, I was inspired to start doing HIIT on the treadmill, and I'm in LOVE. Burns more calories in a shorter period of time. And increases my endurance. Google it. Love it. Tell me about it! And because I'm crazy, I finish each workout by sitting in the steam room.

Though I've been working hard and doing all the right things, I'm only down 2 lbs. I'm still 13 lbs. heavier than pre-baby. And that frustrates me. Especially when we want to expand our family. I just can't build more weight on where I'm at. I know that's stupid. But that's how I feel. So after talking it over with my husband, we decided to hire a personal trainer. Our awesome YMCA offers trainers, and it's super affordable. And with free childcare, it's so worth it. My trainer is a retired Army Ranger. And today was my first fit test.

And here's what I learned: I'm WAY stronger than I believe. The first thing Army Ranger (A.R.) told me was, "Don't count. I'm going to have you do different exercises, but don't you count. Because the second you do, you will get tired and quit. You're capable of more than you think you are." So I didn't count. Though I really wanted to, because that's what I'm accustomed to doing. Instead, he talked to me the whole time. Asked me questions. Told me stories. I even noticed that the floor mat I use every day has a pattern on it. It's funny the things you notice when you free up your mind and stop obsessing over stupid things like counting. But anyway, I digress.

After the fit test, my trainer told me something I haven't heard in a long time: "You did excellent. You're fit. And because you're an athlete, we're going to have some fun."

He called me fit. And an athlete. Say what?! All I feel is weak and a little flabby. But we've gotta start somewhere.

Here are my numbers:

Plank: 1 min. 45 sec.
Push ups (not the girly kind): 19
Sit ups : 33
1-mile run: 8 min 26 sec.
Pull ups: ZERO (A.R. says, "Don't worry. When I'm done with you, you'll be doing pull ups." HAHAHA! <= nervous laughter)

Well, Not-so-baby Boy is having a rough time right now. To give him the paci or not give him the paci... that is the question.

  2. You are an inspiration to so many of us, Tif. I want to find something that I can be consistent with, build up my nonexistant muscles and be a stress reliever. You got my mind turning....Thanks. AND GOOD JOB! You are on the "right" road!!!

This is FIVE

She slowly tiptoes out of her bedroom and pulls the door softly until it clicks closed behind her. Then boldly with purpose, she walks into our room, stands next to the bed, and taps me on my shoulder until I reach underneath her little arms, hoist her up, pull back the covers, and get her situated between us, snuggling in for the last 10 minutes of sleep. But today was a little different. The routine was the same, but instead of sleeping, there was way too much excitement. "Mommy, is it morning? Am I this many?" And she holds up a whole hand of fingers. FIVE. Not a toddler, not yet a big kid. She's that perfect in between. Oh, how I love this girl. I want to be more like her when I grow up. She loves fiercely. Listens quietly. Speaks up when she feels like she's being wronged. Nurtures like no other. Her favorite color is pink, but rainbow is a close second. On Monday, I asked her what she wanted for her birthday dinner. She chose the exact same thing we were eating ...

"Title Goes Here"

I've had about a week to myself as my better half and kids went off on an adventure in Colorado. I don't remember the last time I had this much time to myself. Last week, I exercised the right side of my brain as frequently as I could. I finished two quilt tops and several random quilt blocks. I didn't exercise my body; my brain needed the attention. There's something immensely satisfying about cutting up fabric into smaller pieces, mixing it all up, piecing it back together, and creating something entirely different. It's my therapy. I listened to music loudly. I sat by the fire and stared at my phone for too many hours. I went on a quick work trip. I stayed up too late every night. I balanced the checkbook and paid bills. I made poor eating decisions and drank far too much coffee. Then today, I deliberately did nothing. No music. No creating. No makeup. I rested. I started reading a book. I watched a little t.v. And in the spirit of doing jac...

Tiffany Tries Things, part 2

Welp, I've settled in, and my days are filled. My floors aren't getting mopped nearly as often as they did at first. That said, I haven't tried as many new cleaning supplies lately. This year I've been focusing on taking care of myself--something (someone) I've been neglecting for far too long. Here are a few of my current favorite things: 1. Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel  - Anyone else ask for toiletries for Christmas? Just me? Okay then. I had been wanting to try this for so long. And I'm so glad I did. My skin has never looked better. And the best part about it is that I believe it will last me a year ... and I use it twice a day. That makes it cost <$1/month. 2. Norwex Makeup-Removal Cloth  - Pretty sure I wrote about these before, but I'm too lazy to look. I just love them so much. I have one. I need to order more. Not that I wear much makeup, but I like not having to buy an extra makeup-removing cleanser in addition to face cleanser. Ain't ...
